Cider House Ruler Cllr Phil Fox
One way around the steep a rise in the excise duty on cider introduced in yesterdays Budget is to make your own. Meet Leicestershire’s Braunstone Town Cllr Phil Fox seen here eagerly working an apple press - the first stage of a DIY approach to cider making. But the fantastic Cllr Fox (like his namesake) has a hinterland - he is also a poet and has penned a special poem to celebrate Apple day … including this startling stanza:
I had never savoured apple aroma,
An aroma so cider-pungent
Wooden kegs could not hold it, however copper-taut
Hmm if he hasn’t savoured cider - it seems this poem was produced under the influence of something equally pungent!
The full extent of Cllr Fox’s poetic prowess is available to read online alongside the full report of Braunestones Apple Day “Celebrations”.
