Phillipa Stroud “I have a nightmare…”
PPC Philippa Stroud relates on her website how the local council is fixing the potholes-but also questions why preventative work was not in place 10 years ago.
Philippa said “…it is 10 years too late” but now that the work is being done instead of celebrating the repair she goes on to complain: “I would call on this Council to explain why these measures were not previously deployed. Now residents have to foot the bill for repairs and preventative measures.” This seems to apply the bizzare spiralling logic that might see California’s governor Arnold Schwarzenegger travelling back in time to chide his earlier self for spending money on a time machine that enabled him to make the trip to complain about it…
Moreover this astonishing focus on finding something to moan about runs counter to the most effective and compelling political communication. When Dr Martin Luther King Junior addressed the 200,000 civil rights activist from the steps of the Lincoln memorial in August 1963, He didn’t start with “Brothers and Sisters, I have had a nightmare…” Why must our local councillors and those standing for elected office always be so miserable and nit-picking?
Come on Glum Councillors, stop staring in the gutter and raise your eyes to the horizon!
