Cllr Tony Melia: Glum in the Gutter (thanks to @giggsthelegend)
In his long running campaign against potholes, Cllr Tony Melia (pictured above in this weirdly lit image) generously shares credit with local residents and proclaims a “people’s victory”.
The roads around Darwen, Lancashire have been damaged because of frost. Whilst the council was going to wait until the 2010 before repairing the roads, tireless work by the detemined Councillor for the clearly mis-named Sunnyhurst Ward has resulted in a promise to do the work… several months early!
Hurrah a People’s Victory indeed! The victorious people of Darwen will be dancing in their pothole-free streets in celebration of this life-changing development.
We salute the determined, forward-looking efforts of Cllr Melia on behalf of his constituents…. It is appropriate here to recall the words of Oscar Wilde “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars”
Well done Cllr Tony Melia!
UPDATE: It seems this glorious “People’s Victory” may not have been all it was cracked up to be! Further news in the local paper and a local website dedicated to the state of Darwen’s Roads
