Continuing our feature showcasing councillors who are “out standing in their field”, we again visit South London. Today the South London Borough of Sutton which has the “fourth lowest fly tipping problem in London” according to the meticulous research quoted by elected officials in the local newspaper. However this leafy suburban borough need somewhere to dispose of its leaves… Councillors Tim Cowley (pictured above) and Cllr Paul Scully (video below) appear to have uncovered a dramatic plot suggesting that Sutton Council has shipped its hedge trimmings across the “county line” to be dumped in the neigbouring borough of Banstead & Reigate. On his remarkable blog (featuring classic images like this or this or this) and on his impassioned YouTube presentation Cllr Scully pulls no punches in describing the affair and the cross-border skirmish.
